“She was avoiding any eye contact with him. She knew that once she looked at his eyes, she would be drowned in their innocence oblivious of everything else. His lustrous green eyes had captivated her in such way that when she gazed at them, every other thing seemed to be frugal and worthless. It’s amazing how such small eyes can capture the entire world, the whole universe in them; but what is all the more amazing is that despite what we may say, they also have a language of their own. They speak what we don’t and they reflect our soul. Yes, this is what she had seen in his eyes – his heart, which was so pure that she could not stop herself from falling in love with him. No matter how hard she tried, she could never pull herself away from him and like all the other days, that day too her attempts went in vain. It was their last meeting.” I have heard people speak of their partners and how happy they make them. I have seen couples (young and old) holding hands and walking together. I have seen lovers embrace each other, share kisses, sing and dance, and exchange romantic cards or flowers. However, I have also seen people quietly let that special person go. I have also seen people walk alone. I have also seen people waiting for their love. Love. To some people it may just be a word but, in reality, it is an emotion so strong that it is capable of giving a new direction and meaning to one’s life. It may not always end up in togetherness but it still never leaves one lonely because those who have loved once, carry a part of their love within themselves, always. “She had once read a story where the writer described how love proved to be painful for the protagonist because it was not mutual. At that time she had empathized with him but now her views were different. She had now begun to believe that love can never give pain. It is never unsuccessful or devastating. On the contrary, it is something that allows one to share themselves with another without any expectations in return. It gives the ability to cry in joy and smile in sadness. It teaches that the greatest strength lies in giving your heart to someone and letting them go. As she walked down the stairs of the metro station with him, he talked about his home and how glad he was to be going back; he said that he would really miss the time spent here with all his friends; he took her name to say that she was the most wonderful girl he had ever met. She patiently listened knowing in her heart that getting another moment like this would be difficult henceforth. She heard him take her name wondering if he would remember her and miss her absence and that was when she saw the train enter the platform. She immediately put her thoughts aside, posed a smile and extended her hands towards him. He reciprocated with a final goodbye and entered the metro. She stood outside still looking at him as the gates closed. This was the most dreaded moment. The train left and it also took him and her heart with itself. She was stranded on the platform; standing alone and breathing but without a heart.” I’m sure we have all heard the saying that love is blind. However, I believe that love sees it all; it just chooses to close its eyes. It chooses to accept someone for their goodness and ignores the vices. Yes, sometimes things may get out of control, they may take an ugly turn, but in the end, it is this love which gives us the courage to forgive and forget. I know people who have been betrayed in love, who have felt cheated and used. Yet, I consider them to be lucky for having had the strength to accept their love even if it lasted for a short span. They might contest that betrayal in love is never easy to forget and nothing can make it less painful. But, I feel that no sorrow is greater than that of never having loved. A tear shed for love is worth more than a million smiles without it. "It has been two years now. She has moved on and is doing good in life; he is well
